22 April – World Energy Congress
The World Energy Congress was already over a month ago, and we look back on some inspiring discussions and interesting panels. As you might know, our goal was to bring 500 startups to the WEC with free access. Here’s what we achieved:
We believe The WEC500 initiative successfully bridged the gap between big corporations and startups, sparking meaningful discussions and collaborations. Whether you attended or not, join our dynamic community on LinkedIn via the MEC500.
Thank you to everyone who made WEC 2024 a success. Let’s continue to innovate, impact, and inspire towards a sustainable future.
21th of May
Right after the WEC we attended the WHS in the same Ahoy, but this time with double the amount of stand and attendees. Our colleague Iris presented at the WHS session hosted by Rotterdam Partners and Innovation Quarter. 🥐
The World Hydrogen Summit 2024 showcased Rotterdam’s important part in the national hydrogen network and local developments like the innovative M4H Rotterdam project. We talked about partnerships between startups, ports, and companies to build green hydrogen supply chains, highlighting new technologies driving regional energy changes. The summit created new connections and showed hydrogen’s key role in the global energy transition.

To provide insights into the sector’s strongest developments and spotlight promising technologies, we’ve written the following articles throughout the last few months and interviewed entrepreneurs to inspire you with their vision and journey
This article serves as an introduction to a series of articles called ‘Navigating the Future’. It highlights the developments in the maritime sector to reduce pollution and protect marine biodiversity, as the industry is exploring alternative fuels such as hydrogen, methanol, LNG, and ammonia. The article provides an overview of market tendencies to alternative fuels. While LNG is seen as a transitional fuel due to its cleaner combustion compared to HFO, the long-term shift towards truly sustainable options like e-fuels and biofuels requires substantial investment and infrastructure changes.
Following the series of “Navigating the Future”, the second article explores LNG, as it delves into the benefits and drawbacks of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) as a cleaner alternative to Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO). While LNG reduces particulate emissions and has lower carbon content, it faces challenges such as energy-intensive production processes and methane leakage, which can undermine its environmental advantages. The article also discusses renewable variants like Bio-LNG and e-LNG, highlighting the potential and limitations of LNG as a transitional fuel towards more sustainable energy solutions.
In this compelling interview, Bálint Horvath, business development manager at Aqua Battery, reveals critical insights into the future of energy storage, the innovative use of table salt and water for sustainable energy solutions, and the urgent need for supportive policies in the sector. Read the article to discover how Aqua Battery is pioneering change, the challenges they face in scaling their technology, and the strategic shifts required to achieve global climate goals by 2030.
Read this insightful interview with Sílvio Rodrigues, co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer of JungleAI, on our website as they aim to conquer operational complexity with AI! Sílvio delves into his perspectives on accelerating AI adoption in the maritime and renewable energy sectors. He discusses the critical role of standardized data in unlocking AI’s potential, identifies challenges hindering technological adoption in maritime operations, and highlights JungleAI’s journey from renewable energy into maritime industries.
